Luxury Dossier

life at a gallop

The recent pony deaths in Florida have brought us back to the central question of our public image. All too often, polo is depicted as a trifle of the idle rich. Those of us who play know this is far from the truth. Granted, polo is the game of billionaires, but it is also a global, far-reaching, hell for leather challenge for countless players and fans throughout the world, many of whom have never set foot on a private jet.

The question of drug testing also brought to the fore the question of 'the gentleman's game,' with one side demanding drug testing and the other invoking the politesse of our traditions.

And so, how 'gentlemanly" are we? Do we need drug testing in polo?
Has the professional love of a money sport outstripped our sense of decency?

Or may we, like always, rely on our word?
